Protecting freedom of reunion
CNDH issues recommendation to the FGJEM and CODHEM related to the aggressions committed against demonstrators in Ecatepec, State of Mexico.
The National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) addressed Recommendation 63/2020 to the Attorney General of Justice of the State of Mexico, Alejandro Jaime Gomez Sanchez and to the president of the Human Rights Commission of the State of Mexico (CODHEM), Dr. Jorge Olvera Garcia, related to the eviction and detention of people who participated in the peaceful demonstration inside the CODHEM facilities in the municipality of Ecatepec, State of Mexico.
This Autonomous Organism accredited violations to the human rights of freedom of assembly and to dignified treatment and personal integrity, attributable to elements of the Investigative Police of the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Mexico to the detriment of members of the Ehécatl Collective, in defense of women’s rights and the Iris Foundation.
On September 10 of this year, members of the aforementioned collectives went to take over the facilities of CODHEM, whose only objective was to hold a meeting to assert their petitions and protest the actions and omissions of various authorities of the State of Mexico, in the investigation of their legitimate complaints and to learn the truth about the illegal acts that have been committed against women, children and adolescents.
Therefore, this National Commission recommended to the Attorney General of Justice of the State of Mexico and to the president of CODHEM to collaborate in the integration of the investigation folder that is initiated by the complaint that the CNDH makes against those responsible for ordering and inferring aggressions to the victims; To cooperate in the complaint filed before the Internal Control Organ of said agency, against the public servants who intervened in the events related to the eviction, transfer, and placement at the disposal, respectively, before the Justice Center of Atizapán de Zaragoza, and to designate a public servant to follow up on compliance with the Recommendation.
