Cycle: “Pandemic and Human Rights”.

The general director of the National Center for Human Rights of the CNDH, Dr. Ángeles Corte Ríos, said during the opening of the Cycle of Conferences “Pandemic and Human Rights” that it is essential that all public servants of the Mexican State, as well as the authorities of the countries of the Americas, are aware of the obligations in terms of respect for human rights, specifically health, work and freedom of movement for the inhabitants of this region.

He stated that these meetings will provide information and generate spaces for reflection so that all of us, from our own sphere of responsibility, can comply with this important resolution, the 4/2020 Human Rights of People with Covid-19 adopted by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) on July 27, 2020, in order to respect, protect and guarantee the human rights of people and specifically of people sick with Covid-19 at this time of humanitarian crisis and health crisis.

States are urged to effectively protect people living in poverty and extreme poverty in the Americas in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic, and are highly concerned about the substantial increase in poverty and extreme poverty in the region due to the Covid-19 pandemic and its consequences, as well as the serious negative impacts that people in this situation must face in order to achieve minimum levels of protection of their human rights, particularly economic, social, cultural and environmental rights.
