Government of EDOMEX must investigate aggressions against Quadratín news agency

  • Freedom of expression, press and information rights, an indispensable part of the public agenda.

The National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) makes an urgent call to the authorities of the State of Mexico to carry out the corresponding investigations in relation to the aggressions and threats suffered at the facilities of the news agency Quadratín in the municipality of Metepec; it also asks for full respect for freedom of expression, of the press and of access to information. For the CNDH it is of utmost relevance that, in the context of the violence that journalists and communicators continue to face in the country, the authorities recognize and disseminate the relevance of the work they perform for the benefit of society, and in this way provide optimal conditions so that the informative work is not affected directly or indirectly.

The CNDH considers it necessary to create a common front to support and defend those who, even at the risk of their own lives, exercise their freedom of expression to communicate, disseminate and publicly denounce issues that concern us all, and whose ultimate goal is to ensure the conscious and informed participation of citizens.

The full exercise of freedom of expression and of the press must be a priority, only in this way will we ensure the strengthening of the democratic rule of law and, consequently, the unrestricted respect for human rights.
