2020 National Human Rights Award to Dr. Rosa María Álvarez González

Honorable mention was also awarded to Eduardo Cruz Moguel, president of the PAS Foundation (Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse), Eduardo Cruz Moguel.

The CNDH awarded this prize to the investigator, docent and a member of civil society organizations, Rosa María Álvarez González, for her remarkable work in the promotion and effective defense of fundamental freedoms, in particular for her role as one of the first defenders who fought for the protection of women’s rights.
An honorable mention was also conferred to the president of the PAS Foundation (Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse) A.C., Eduardo Cruz Moguel, for his contributions to protecting children and adolescents in Mexico, particularly for his work to prevent and address child sexual abuse.

Rosa María Álvarez González was recognized for her work in favor of the adoption of a gender perspective and the impulse she has provided to the construction of a culture of respect for the human rights of girls, boys, adolescents and women in her work as a researcher, teacher and member of civil society organizations. She also recalled her participation as ad hoc judge of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR) in the case of González and others (“”Campo Algodonero””) vs. Mexico, which brought to light the violence against women and the femicides that occurred in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua.

He also expressed his appreciation for the work of Eduardo Cruz Moguel, who has promoted models of prevention, care and training for civil society and public and private institutions on this issue, which have made it possible to counteract situations that violate the rights of children and adolescents, as well as the creation of a virtual platform for the prevention of this problem.
