CNDH verifies compliance with the Recommendation issued due to conditions at the Women’s Rehabilitation Center in Tapachula, Chiapas

Compliance with Recommendation 19/2021, issued by this National Agency, in favor of women deprived of their liberty.

On April 23, personnel from the Third General Inspector’s Office of the CNDH verified during a visit that the state authorities determined the transfer of 57 women deprived of their liberty in the CERSS to an authorized center in Zona Costa, with the support of the State Human Rights Commission and the entity’s Health and Security and Citizen Protection Secretariats.

In the building, which has a capacity to house 280 people, spaces and areas were adapted to separate sentenced women, processed women and young people in conflict with the law, in addition to having mattresses in good condition, adequate electrical installations, drinking water, sanitation, toilets, ventilation, laundry and clotheslines.

Likewise, the Commission verified that the place has green areas, multipurpose areas, workshops, living areas -for family and intimate visits-, as well as for the enforcement of sanctions; dining rooms, stores, weapons room and for the monitoring of security cameras. Also noteworthy is the installation of offices equipped to provide psychology, educational, medical, dental, criminology, labor and social work services, as well as spaces for sports practice.

The state authorities implemented a health and gynecological care campaign, and emphasized that there are no positive cases of COVID-19, and that one woman of legal age has been fully vaccinated against the disease.
