CNDH Rejects Repression against Students from Mactumactzá Rural School

CNDH is working with the CEDH of Chiapas in the investigation of the events on May 18.

Personnel of the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) have been at the site, and maintain permanent communication with both, the students and the State Human Rights Commission of Chiapas (CEDH CHIAPAS), in order to assist in the human rights defense of those who were affected, within the framework of their powers and competencies and with full respect for the non-jurisdictional system that governs us.

Last May 18, this National Organism heard that a group of normalist students, who were protesting to demand educational improvements from state authorities, was evicted from the Chiapa de Corzo tollbooths, an act in which force, touching and public stripped were used, resulting in the detention of 74 women and 21 men, who were placed art the disposal of the ministerial authority.

It should be noted that the young students demanded to take the entrance exam for the 2020-2021 school year in person because many do not have access to internet in their communities, and that in addition to the above, riot police from the Public Security Secretariat of that federal entity prevented the exit of another group of students who were in the facilities of the Normal School and intended to aid their detained classmates.
