Regional Consultation Table on Accessibility in the Public Transportation Field is Presented.

Will be the basis for the formulation of a General Recommendation on the right of accessibility in Mexico.

Joaquín Alva Ruiz-Cabañas, from the Program for the Attention to the Rights of Persons with Disabilities of the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH), was in charge of welcoming the First Round Table on Accessibility in the Physical Environment, and offered a cordial greeting to the public human rights organizations that attended the meeting, which in this case corresponded to the southern region.

He has confident that through this dialogue space, great contributions and valuable inputs will be obtained and with which the fundamental inputs for the work of a first General Recommendation on the subject or on the right to accessibility in Mexico will be formed, and which will be a recommendatory work derived from the National Monitoring Mechanism of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Among the first conclusions, it was stated that the actions in terms of physical accessibility are minimal and that there is an evident lack of coordination, a series of isolated actions that commonly do not include persons with disabilities. However, there is an opportunity for involving and advocacy to achieve the materialization of the accessibility issue and seeking alternatives to ensure that governments at the state level, in collaboration with the human rights commissions, work and formulate different proposals in this regard and with sufficient technical strength.
