CNDH condemns the murder of journalist Ricardo Domínguez López.

Call to the authorities of Sonora for an expeditious investigation and to offer guarantees to the victim's family and journalists.

The National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) strongly condemns the murder of journalist Ricardo Domínguez López, president of the “Metropolitan Association of Independent Journalists of Guaymas-Empalme,” and demands that the justice authority of the state of Sonora thoroughly investigate this murder, with special emphasis on its possible relationship with the information work he was doing during his lifetime, since it is known that, prior to the attacks against him, the journalist publicly reported having received threats and harassment from criminal groups, a circumstance for which he decided to change his place of residence to the municipality of Cajeme.

In view of this situation, it is imperative that, in addition to the investigation, the Sonoran authorities coordinate the appropriate actions to provide comprehensive care to the families and indirect victims of this reprehensible act.

The CNDH draws attention once again to the urgency of reviewing and constructing more effective public policies and official strategies, coordinated by the bodies of the three levels of government of the Mexican State, aimed at preventing aggressions, incidents and risks, as well as guaranteeing the life, safety and personal integrity of journalists and collaborators of the news spaces.
