2021-2030 Decade of Healthy Aging

Healthy Aging is the process of promoting and maintaining the functional capacity that enables well-being in aging.

The Decade of Healthy Aging (2021-2030) offers the opportunity to bring together governments, civil society, international organizations, professionals, academic institutions, the media and the private sector around ten years of concerted action. , catalyst and collaboration to improve the lives of older people, their families and the communities in which they live.

The world’s population is aging faster than in the past, and this demographic transition will affect almost every aspect of society. The world has come together around the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: all countries and stakeholders have pledged to leave no one unattended and have set out to ensure that all people can realize their potential with dignity and equality and in a healthy environment.

A decade of concerted global action on Healthy Aging is urgently needed. There are already more than 1 billion people in the world who are 60 years of age or older, most of them in low- and middle-income countries. Many of these people do not even have access to the basic resources necessary for a full and dignified life. Many others face numerous obstacles that prevent them from participating fully in society.
