International Year of Peace and Trust, 2021

Peace and trust involve accepting differences, being able to listen to, recognize, respect and appreciate others, and live together peacefully.

The International Year of Peace and Trust, 2021, was established by the United Nations General Assembly through Resolution 73/338.

The document in reference, highlights that the International Year of Peace and Trust is a means of mobilizing the efforts of the international community to promote peace and trust among nations based, inter alia, on political dialogue, mutual understanding and cooperation, in order to achieve sustainable peace, solidarity and harmony.

Calls upon the international community to continue to promote peace and trust among nations as a value that fosters sustainable development, peace and security, and human rights.

Invites all Member States, organizations of the United Nations system, other relevant international and regional organizations and civil society, including non-governmental organizations, individuals and other relevant stakeholders, to facilitate the appropriate observance of the International Year of Peace and Trust and to disseminate the benefits of peace and trust, including through educational and public awareness activities.

It also requests the Secretary-General to bring the present resolution to the attention of all Member States, organizations of the United Nations system and other international and regional organizations, as well as civil society, including non-governmental organizations and individuals.


And finally, stresses that the cost of all activities that may result from the implementation of this resolution should be covered by voluntary contributions.
