International Symposium “Selected Topics in Human Rights”.

During the fifth session of the International Symposium “Selected Topics in Human Rights”, Dr. Jorge Claudio Szeinfeld, PhD in Security, Lawyer and University Professor-Researcher, presented the keynote lecture “Human Rights and the Armed Forces: Experiences from Argentina”. Among the comments he made, he highlighted the importance that those who belong to the armed forces should have an integral conception of human rights as a basic rule, as well as of their evolution. He pointed out that currently the vision of human rights cannot be limited to the classification of human rights in first, second and third generation, since the military must have a broad knowledge of the normative and regulatory frameworks precisely to avoid committing excesses.

Precisely in reference to Argentina’s experiences, he cited, for example, that the International Criminal Court plays a preponderant role and now issues are changing, such as the fact that there is no longer only a state responsibility but an individual one.
