Call to guarantee and respect freedom of expression

A culture of respect for freedom of expression and of the press ensures good governance.

The CNDH, in various public pronouncements, has reiterated the need for the authorities of the three levels of government to take the necessary measures to ensure respect for the full exercise of freedom of expression, of the press and of access to information and to provide the optimal conditions so that the work of information is not directly or indirectly affected.

This is because, unfortunately, Mexico continues to be one of the most dangerous countries to practice journalism in Latin America, in which the most serious attacks by direct means, such as kidnapping, disappearance, attacks on bodily integrity with firearms and homicide, continue to occur in an alarmingmanner.

It should be noted that, considering the relevance of the work carried out by those who exercise freedom of expression and defense of human rights in the current context of the electoral process in the Mexican Republic, especially in view of the fact that the holding of elections is one of the fundamental moments of political participation and democratic life and that during electoral processes journalists act in the midst of conflicting interests and it is possible that they may become the target of threats and physical aggressions by both political actors and non-Stateactors.
