CNDH condemns the murders of journalists Gustavo Sánchez and Enrique García

CNDH expresses condolences to victims' families and colleagues.

This National Organization reiterates its concern at the lack of effectiveness, efficiency and validity of actions, public policies and official strategies, coordinated and adequate, on the part of the bodies of the three levels of government of the Mexican State, aimed at preventing aggressions, incidents and risks, as well as to guarantee the life, safety and personal integrity of journalists and collaborators of the information spaces, since such events, in the cases that have been concretized, constitute an obstacle, silence and inhibit the full exercise of the right to freedom of expression in our country.

Related to the above, the CNDH warns that the aggressions that happen in tort of members of the communication guild not only affect its members, but also represent an affront to society, since it prevents it from being widely informed about transparency in the processes related to the “public thing” or social dimension , as well as in the formation of public opinion.

The National Commission will closely observe the evolution of events and the investigations carried out by the competent authorities in order to clarify the facts and identify those responsible, so that they may be brought to justice and punished as appropriate by law, so that this case does not go unpunished.
