CNDH condemns murder of activist Tomás Rojo Valencia

CNDH calls on authorities to guarantee the life, safety and integrity of their families

From the information gathered in the media, it can be seen that on June 18, 2021, the body of the defender was located in a clandestine grave, located 12 kilometers southeast of Vícam and two kilometers east of State Highway 29, in the state of Sonora, to which the CNDH expresses its condolences to his relatives and expresses its solidarity with the collaborators and members of the aforementioned community.

In the follow-up of the case, this Autonomous Body learned that the Attorney General’s Office of the state of Sonora initiated the corresponding investigation for the clarification of the facts and identification of those responsible, on the occasion of the alleged disappearance and subsequent murder of the defender Rojo Valencia, implementing work, through its Directorate of Criminalistics Laboratory , for the identification and study of the remains located, corresponding to the aggrieved defender.

In view of the events described above, this National Commission requests the law enforcement authority to investigate in an exhaustive manner the aforementioned matters, with special attention to their possible relationship with the human rights defense activity of the victims, also coordinating actions for the comprehensive attention of the relatives and indirect victims in the case.
