CNDH welcomes entry into force of the Convention on the Elimination of Violence and Harassment in the World of Work

It seeks to end the effects on the psychological, physical and sexual health of people, their dignity, and the family and social environment.

In the framework of its one hundred-eighth meeting, the ILC adopted this Convention on June 21, 2019, and on that occasion it stressed that violence and harassment are a threat to equal opportunities, they affect the psychological, physical and sexual health of people, their dignity, and family and social environment.

Given the importance of a work culture based on mutual respect and the dignity of individuals, Convention No. 190 of the International Labour Organization (ILO) seeks to protect workers, regardless of their contractual status, persons in training, including interns and apprentices, laid off, voluntary, job-seekers and applicants in all sectors. , as well as other people from the world of work, whether from the public or private sector, from the formal or informal economy, in urban or rural areas. Such protection applies to violence and harassment that occurs during, in connection with or as a result of work.

The significance of this Convention also lies in providing for the first definition of violence and harassment in the world of work, including gender-based violence and harassment, the latter of which includes that which disproportionately affects persons of a particular sex or gender.

The CNDH believes that the ratification of this Convention can pay for the search for better working environments and dignified conditions for allpeople.
